This post is way overdue but a lot of things had to fall in to place for me be able to share freely! Since August of last year Ben has been process to get accepted into the Sacramento PD.  Originally he had a applied to the Sheriffs department.  He made it all the way through to an alternate.  There were over 1000 applicants and he was 1 of 17 alternates called in to be a part of the academy in the event that someone decided not to participate.  Others made it in but Ben didn’t make it past being an alternate. Everything happens for a reason.  Had he made it in we would have had to pay for the police academy out of pocket, no salary after and no guarantee of a job once he completed the training.

Ben is not a quitter.  Let me back up a few steps here and say that Ben has wanted to be a part of law enforcement or the military since I can remember.  In fact, way before we were married. A few things out of his control prevented him from joining the military as a teen even so, law enforcement has always been on his heart.  When we moved to CA from CT about 5 years ago, he applied to be a part of corrections.  He made it to a final interview where they discovered he was not a citizen (he has his citizenship now).  He had no idea that was a requirement and 6 months into the process we would have hoped that someone would have let him know earlier.  As a result he did not get into corrections, but again, everything happens for a reason.

Fast forward to shortly after being declined entry into the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department.  Much to Ben’s advantage he had applied to the Sacramento City PD at the same time as the Sheriff’s Department. He started the process of being accepted into their department immediately after. Several interviews, physical and mental exams, lots of stress and questioning the unknown, he made it in! Ben has been hired by the Sacramento City Police department and starts pre-academy employment and training THIS WEEK! The official academy starts in July and it will be a journey!! I am SO HAPPY for him! It has been a long process.

Now you might be wondering how I am doing with all of this.  I am TRULY excited but also anxious to see what this is all entails for our family.  From the academy to probation to being on his own on the job we don’t know fully what to expect. We have been trying to “prepare” ourselves as a family.  We watch Live PD all weekend long, we also have been watching a YouTube series called “The Academy” where we literally see the step by step process of the Austin PD academy.  Ben listens to all the police podcasts etc. but we all know there is nothing like actually experiencing the job.  I am concerned about his safety and different situations he may be in, but like anything, I have to trust that God will protect him and I have to keep my prayers going day in and day out! How’s Ben doing? He is doing good.  He has a week off so he is getting some last minute errands done and prepping his study area here at the house for during the academy! I honestly think he is just so ready to get started!

Prior to this Ben worked at Dignity Health for the past 4 years as a Mental Health Coordinator.  He assisted with placing mental health patients from the local emergency departments into facilities for treatment.  He got the job shortly after we moved here from CT and it has been such an answer to prayer and blessing for our family.  We are so incredibly grateful.  He said goodbye this week and it was a little surreal.  I work in the same building as him.  In fact our departments are steps away from one another.  I can throw a penny at him and hit him.  I will miss working near him 3 days a week but this new chapter is going to be so exciting and fulfilling for him! My dad will be with the RCMP 30 years this january and i must say yes even now i still get some nerves of hiM coming home safe and there are stressful times, but if anything i can say having an amazing family for him to come home to will be the biggest SUPPORT he could ask for and helP him THROUGH trying times. I am so haPpy for your family the pride i feel everyday seeing my dads work is undescribable and i know you will, and already feel that sense of pride.
