Last month Kachet, Melinda and I went to San Fran to spend the day together and shoot in the city! The images in today’s post are by the fabulous Rachel Radcliff Photography! She was so sweet and up for any adventure which was so much fun! I can’t wait to show you everything we did that day, but I will save that another post!
Today I wanted to talk about the topic of championing one another and really realizing that there is enough cheese for us all. There is room for everyone. Initially when I started blogging I quickly got discouraged by the amount of saturation in the industry. Not only were there thousands of other bloggers but they were all “bigger” than me. For a long time it paralyzed me from moving forward. I love fashion, photography, creating and so on. I just wanted to do it. Once I felt like I got the green light, I began moving forward the best way I knew how, hesitant and also fearful that I would never cause impact or stand out.
It’s interesting because I remember at the time, seasoned bloggers would encourage me to focus on my niche and stay in my lane. In other words, try to distinguish who my target audience is and don’t compare myself to others. As easy as that is to say, it is really difficult to do. I still struggle with doing this today. However, I quickly began to realize that people were paying attention to me, my family and what we were doing. Over time we grew a following. Regardless of there being thousands of other influencers out there, we were still influencing and standing out. We started to see that brands worked with both micro and macro influencers. You don’t have to be necessarily “huge” for brands to pay you and work with you.
It is absolutely amazing how much people are drawn to realness. They also are drawn to trying to figure out and make sense of anything that doesn’t make sense. I am a black girl married to a white man with caramel babies. I became a nurse when I was 19 and that has been my sole career ever since. I love Jesus and am very passionate about song writing and leading worship. I love anything fashion and creatively putting together outfits… the list goes on. This is just a little bit about me that I believe causes people to stop and pay attention. I think it is important in this industry to really hone in on who you are, what makes you different and how are you going to execute that in a very real and tasteful way. There is room for you. More than enough room, but there is also strategy in establishing a form of long term success.
God has given every single one of us a set of talents. There are no two people alike. This is mind blowing if you think about it. All different, with all kinds of separate DNA. This is to our advantage. The minute we stop trying to be a copy-cat and start focusing on the amazingness we have to offer this world, we begin to make impact, we begin to make room for ourselves. In doing this you begin to realize that we are in no competition with anyone. We cannot possibly be anyone else. I am me and you are you. Champion those around you who have the same goals in mind. Celebrate with them as they find victory. Cry with them as they experience loss or disappointment. If you want to rise, you must lift up those around you. There is room for you, there is room for me, there is room for everyone.
