There is nothing like a New England Fall, but there is also nothing like a Northern California Fall either. I grew up in CT and right about now you could expect frigid temps and a snow storm right around the corner! I loved the colors of the foliage. That was my favorite part, but the weather I could for sure do without.
We are experiencing our 5th Fall in Northern CA this year and my favorite part about this time of year is that the weather gradually gets cooler and typically stays quite warm for weeks into the Fall season. It isn’t that crazy punch you in the face with freezing temps you get back east. It is currently still in the low to mid 80’s right now. No complaints at all! Last week I got into the Fall spirit with some of my favorite girls and headed up to Apple Hill for the afternoon. It was glorious and absolute Fall perfection!
For those of you that are unfamiliar with the area and may visit Northern CA in the near future, I wanted to share 5 things to do here this Fall.
Apple Hill: This is the perfect place to pick apples, pick your pumpkins, grab caramel apples, apple donuts and more! They also have pony rides, hay rides and a fun duck ponds! There are countless farms at Apple Hill! My favorite is High Hill! This is where we get our caramel apples and hang by the pond. A few other farms worth stopping by are Boa Vista, Rainbow Orchards and Abel Farms. I suggest going on a weekday to avoid the weekend crowds. They are open 8am to 6pm Daily. Wine Tasting In Napa Valley: A few years ago when I was still pretty new to the area a group of us went up to Napa for wine tasting in the Fall and it was a dream. Northern CA can be so hot in the Summer that wine tasting during the Summer months can be quite uncomfortable. I remember going up in November and the timing was perfect. The weather was cooler but not freezing cold. A few of my favorite wineries are: Robert Mondavi (gorgeous grounds), Castello Di Amorosa (castle) and Sterling Vineyards (has a gondola ride).
Hiking in Lake Tahoe: We absolutely love Lake Tahoe year round but the Fall is perfect for hiking. The views are always gorgeous and it is always a few degrees cooler in the mountains. Some hiking trails I would suggest are Desolation Wilderness, the Flume Trail, Cascade Falls, and the trails from D.L. Bliss State Park.
Capital Park, Sacramento: Sacramento gets in the triple digits during the Summer. No one likes to spend any time at all walking around in the heat. Going to the capital in the Fall is the best time to go! The Capitol Park is located in the center of Downtown Sacramento. You can go inside the large capitol building to see the dome and all of the historic rooms. My family loves walking the park and checking out the war memorials and rose garden!
Explore Yosemite Park: I spent one day at Yosemite Park and it is a place I will never forget. It felt like Jurassic Park. Everything is so majestic and larger than life. The hikes are incredible (Half dome is a must) and everything makes you feel so close to heaven. Be sure to stay at The Majestic Yosemite Hotel.

I am very jealous of your weather right now! Yes, here in PA I am in in a running group that meets thursday nights. last thursday it was 80 degrees and humid. Today it is 45 degrees. I would love some of that nice fall weather, and it looks like you have plenty to do there!
To say I’m jealous of this girl’s day would be a major understatement! It looks like you beautiful ladies had so much fun together, celebrating fall! I’ve never been off the east coast (something I’m definitely not proud of) aside from visiting my grandmother in New Mexico when I was quite young (I barely remember it) – but new seasons always make me ache to explore new places!
It seems like there’s so many fun things to do in North California, I don’t even know how you chose! This is such a great idea. Need to do this for Dallas or Nashville!!! Also, how has it already been 5 falls??! Cali suits y’all!

What great recommendations! I have always wanted to go wine tasting in cali, and of course visit Lake Tahoe. I only hear great things. I feel like I always hear about fall things to do on the East Coast, so this was a nice breathe of Fresh air to realize there is just as much to do on the West Coast as well.
