5 tips For Back To School Success | Featuring PayLess

Today I am sharing 5 tips for back to school success.  The Lord knows I need them and the past two weeks have taken it out of me!! I think this week we may be getting more into a routine! Ava is in 2nd grade, Savannah is in Kindergarten and Judah will be starting Pre-School. At the same time school started we had to figure out juggling the extra-curricular activities which took up every evening with the exception of Friday’s. Ava is on a competitive soccer team, Savannah is in gymnastics and tumbling and J starts soccer on Tuesday. Each activity requires 2-3 days from each child.  You get the idea, and needless to say I need to get organized and stay organized!! Here are a few things we are working on:

Routine: They say that kids thrive on routine and I am finding that to be true— knowing when to get up, when to shower, what time to do homework, when dinner is– helps them better predict their schedule and know what to expect.  The biggest routines we are working on are right now are when they wake up and right before bed.

Own That Laundry: Getting on a laundry routine that works for our family has been so key for us.  With kiddos, and even Ben (He plays soccer and baseball some evenings) being involved in sports all week long, their gear needs to be clean. Doing one load of laundry per day and then putting the clothes away every two days has kept us on track.  Luckily I have spent the summer training the kids to separate and put away their own clothes (not folded lol).  This in turn has cut my laundry time in half. They are 4,5 and 7, but being a working mom amongst other things, I need their help!

Labels and Ownership: My mother-in-law came for a visit one year and helped me organize the kids.  They have a place with their initials for their coats and their back packs.  They each have their own laundry baskets and dressers.  Now with school starting I am working on getting a filing system with their names on their sections for all of the paper work they come home with.  Once I do that, I can give them ownership over their items from school and they can file everything them themselves.

Consistent Bedtimes: Studies have shown that children who have consistent bed times scored better on cognitive tests throughout grade school. I have some friends that have been able to get their kids in bed by 7 and I have begged them to train mine to do the same! Mine are an 8-830 bed time.  We are able to keep these times most nights depending on evening activities.

Attitude: I am a firm believer that attitude is everything and that we are our kids first teacher.  As they say, learning always starts at home and our children’s mood will affect how well he or she learns. A positive attitude is one of the best ways we can inspire our children to keep them performing well at school and willing to tackle their homework in the evenings.

On to our sneakers! We are wearing Kangaroos! Do you remember these super cool sneakers from back in the day with the pockets and compartments to hold your coins, on the side?! They’re back!! When these arrived in the mail, the kids flipped out! They were trying to sleep with them on. They arrived just in time for back to school and the kids felt so cool and confident in their new kicks!!

We are always adventuring as a family!! We love to go on mini hikes or for long walks with Charlie (our black lab) and in all honesty, these have been our go-to footwear.  Besides the fact that they are dead cute, they are extra comfortable and supportive.  I have had a few pairs of sneakers over the past few months and these rank the highest in comfort + style in one!! PayLess is doing it right and for an affordable price!
