Lately I have been thinking a lot about the idea of love, especially as we are approaching Valentine’s Day. The scripture verse that comes to mind is the one most often used at weddings and such…
Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.
Love doesn’t strut,
Doesn’t have a swelled head,
Doesn’t force itself on others,
Isn’t always “me first,”
Doesn’t fly off the handle,
Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn’t revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.

Love is beautiful but it can be hard. It is a choice. It is not about me. There’s a lot of giving with a lot of feeling, like I am not getting what I have given in return. And that is ok, because that is what love is truly all about. This is not just in a marital context. ( I often pause and think about the greatest love given to us from God through His Son Jesus Christ. There is no greater love. ) This is in regard to the person sitting in the cubicle next to you, the patient you are caring for on the hospital ward, your super annoying neighbor, our spouses and our kids. If we go back through that verse line by line it is clear that LOVE is a tall order and a high price. I believe that God does not set us up for failure in things he asks us to do. There is no perfection, but there is striving to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. I will never measure up to Jesus and the way He is or was as He walked on this earth, but I do want to be more and more like Him every day. This Valentine’s Day and everyday forward, may we love bigger, deeper and harder, all by the beautiful grace of God.

get several e-mails with the same comment. Is there any
way you can remove people from that service? Appreciate it!
