A lot of times I see an article of clothing or a statement piece on Pinterest, in a magazine or just on an individual walking down the street and I say “hmmm… I need that!”. I then try to picture in my head what it would all look like on me. Once I’ve made up my mind that I want something, I search high and low for that item. (It’s always in the back of my head)!It has to meet the criteria: One being that it has to scream “I belong to Ruthie!” And two, the price has to be right! (This could take weeks or months and therefore may never happen!) For something like a poncho kimono however, I also want it be quality so it lasts a while. This season I’ve seen so many poncho/ kimono type inspirations and I’ve been waiting to find just the right one!
Over Christmas I was out with my mother in law doing some last minute Christmas shopping. We decided to go into my all time favorite store, Marshall’s. (P.s. This particular shopping experience was a MAJOR win. I love when that happens!) In this Marshall’s as soon as you walk in, to the right is a huge wall of clearance shoes. I always run there first! Well, what do you know… A pair of Franco Sarto shoes that I’ve been eyeing for weeks gets marked down to 21.00. I throw them in the cart. (Shoes pictured below). I immediately start feeling slightly guilty because I’m supposed to be shopping for others, but, meh! This is a crazy steal! I circle around the store and BOOM, there is THIS poncho/kimono on the end aisle and I’ll I can hear in my head is “Whoomp there it is!!!” I refrain from dancing, but boy am I thrilled!! I try on every size, stop people in the store for their opinion, try it on with heels, you get the picture. I basically do everything right then and there to confirm that THIS. IS. IT. And it was!
I try very hard not to impulse shop. I plan ahead, around events or different trips I might be taking to sort out outfits and what I want to wear. I look in my closet and build around what I already have etc. It brings me so much joy to have an idea of what I want in my head and to then see it all come together in reality. Simple and silly to some, but fun and a creative outlet for me!
