I grew up playing sports and I am super thankful for that. In a lot of ways I wish I played longer and I played more of a variety. I started participating sports when I entered the 4th grade. My parents grew up in Jamaica where cricket and soccer were the sports of choice! They chose soccer for me. I liked it, but I felt that if I had started playing earlier like the other girls on my team, I would have acquired a bit more skill. All I felt I had to offer was speed. Fortunate for me, my dad was our coach and he played to my strengths.

Simultaneously I would play basketball in the off season and even tried some gymnastics. I quit not too long after as I didn’t have a flexible joint in my body. Fast forward to middle school where I joined track and field. I remember this very vividly because I was quite fast. I ran the 100 and 200 meters and confidently competed against surrounding middle schools. Although I never came in first place I always did very well.

I loved running. It was something I was good at but it also came very naturally to me. My body in a sense felt as if it was made to do just that. Long distance was not my thing- my muscles and legs were made for speed so that is what I focused on. After middle school I was transferred to an arts magnet school where sports were not an option. I later picked up running again, but often times wish I had the space, opportunity and time to continue to pursue sports.

Here I am now with kids of my own. Sports in their life is a big deal for Ben and I . Ava started playing soccer when she was 4 and has not stopped.  The others followed suit and they all still play today.  Since then Savannah has adopted Acro as a passion.  She has private lessons weekly.  Judah will start baseball this Spring. Our latest excitement in the sports world is cross country running! Their school is starting a club and they are PUMPED to join.  Since then we signed up for a local race together as a family to get their legs used to a little bit more distance!! The most fun part is training together! I think cross country will be a blast this year, especially with some of their peers at school.  As a mom, I never want the kids to get bored or complacent.  I am hoping that a variety of sports will keep them engaged and motivated! We are wearing head to toe ATHLETA!! You can shop all of our looks HERE!

We should always encourage children to practice sports. When i was little I used to play handball. I did it for about 4 years. it’s nice that there is a day dedicated to women and girls in sports.

Your kids surely have great parents in you and your hubby. My folk never understood how sport could bring food to the table, so it was a no-no. Now, I’m an active SPORTS person BUT I wish I did more when I was YOUNGER. Your sport wears from Athleta look great on all of you.

Oh wow, Glad that your kids are so active like yours. Sports have no space in our home Lol. I don’t know why my girls are more on social media rather than playing with others. I think I should start sending them to some swimming lessons or soccer?.
