Own Your Power

For over 20 years Athleta has empowered women and girls to reach their limitless potential.  The brand continues to inspire women and girls to be the very best version of themselves which has always been referred to as- The Power of She! I have always loved and supported this messaging as I raise girls that are and will continue to make a difference in our world today!

I asked each of my girls individually “What does being powerful mean to you?” and this was their responses:

Ava- “God created the girls and I am glad that He made all of us.  I think that we are all strong and nothing can stop us. We are really too powerful!”

Savannah- “Being powerful means that I am strong, intelligent, encouraging and loyal!”

I loved their responses.  At ages 7 and 9 there is so much innocence in these girls.  I am thankful for brands like Athleta that encourage power, limitlessness and supporting others! These girls are learning how to be the very best versions of themselves at such a young and impressionable age.

Are you familiar with the Athleta Girl Mantra? If not it is worth reading below:

Before anything else, we’re girls.
Girls who jump high and shine bright.
Girls who dream crazy big.
Girls who learn that we can do everything we put our minds to. Girls who would do anything for our friends, our squad, our tribe. We’re bold, brilliant and a thousand times awesome.
We’ll grow up, but we’ll never grow out of it.

I seriously tear up reading this because this is a new generation of women we are raising today.  Women who support one another, women who are bold and most importantly women who are not afraid to speak up for and support that which is right!

Here are a few simple tips to help your Athleta Girl cultivate power in her everyday life:

I always encourage my girls to speak up, especially in social settings like school and church, not just at home.  Speaking up includes creating a safe space for them to express and share their feelings.  Often times these answers won’t come naturally so I often have to pry and ask what they are thinking, what they need etc.  Simply listening to them intently shows them what they have to say is important and what they think really matters.  All of these gestures cultivate a feeling of power for a young girl growing up.

Today is the International Day of the Girl and we are so excited to celebrate and partner with Athleta! Athleta is bringing together girls from all around the country to encourage them to find their voices, and use them. They have partnered with non-profit, Girl Leadership, to launch an exclusive, limited edition, All Kinds of Powerful mantra tee  that are available from 9/20 to 10/31, Athleta will donate a portion of proceeds (up to $10,000) from sales of these amazing tops to support the important work that Girls Leadership is doing. This is a cause we are so excited to get behind!! Snag your sweatshirt and long sleeve tee for your Athleta Girl here and here!

Awww, I love how your girls define powerful. 🙂 Their perspective is so wonderful!

It sounds like you’re doing a great job raising them to be strong and intelligent women. It’s so great to see that they have a mother who truly listens and provides a safe place for them to express themselves.

I’ve been such a fan of athleta for years because of their great messaging! They’re truly one of the only brands that practice what they preach and not just using feminisM and female empowerment as a selling point. Loved this post! ❤️
