A Father’s Love

A Father’s Love
On Monday I shared about how Ben and I keep our love alive.  Today I am giving you a little glimpse of my observations with Ben and his obvious love for our children.  What we have, I truly do not take for granted and feel that it is something special.  I hope my kids realize as they get older what they have  in a father.  He is gold.

One of my favorite things to do is watch Ben and the kids. I remember being 15 years old and writing in a journal about my future husband. Number 10 down on the list was a good father. I got that and so much more. He is a great father… The kids love him so much. They trust him, they believe him, they run to him for safety and I think that there is so much power in that.

A mothers love is special. There’s nothing like a mothers love. I remember moments with my mom and all I felt was pure love. There’s also nothing like a father’s love. Girls in particular look to their dads for confidence, reassurance, courage, reminders of who they are. Boys look to their dads to mirror their strength, masculinity and poise. I have watched my kids look up to Ben with eyes of adoration and respect. He is the one they run to in an emergency, and for peace in chaotic situations. He is a safe place for all of us.

Meet Charlie Ridley! He is our 1 year old black lab! He is giving us a run for our money but we love him so much!!

Being a parent is one of the hardest jobs, I believe one could ever have. For a slew of reasons, of course.  As Ben and I raise these kids we are finding that we feel their joys and their pain so deeply. It is amazing how tangible their emotions and experiences have become to us. Every single day all I can think is, this is our future. Things we say today, things we do with them, seeds planted, are for their future, not just for now. I have watched Ben as he has carefully chosen his words and his posture with the children in very fragile situations. He handles them with such care but offers tough love when it is appropriate.  I know these are moments they will remember. Although my kids are ages 5, 6 and 7 these are formative years and they’re being built on love. He will be the first to say that he is not perfect and I agree, but he is doing a pretty darn good job! I asked Ben the other day what his greatest dream in life was and he said “I am living my dream.  I am a husband and a father.  I always wanted to be a father.”   Again, he isn’t perfect but I admire how well he is raising them in the midst of life’s pressures and busyness! Ps.  Look at Charlie!! Isn’t he cute?!!? He is driving us NUTS!! Love him to pieces though!! Thank you as always for stopping by the blog!! Much love,

There really is nothing more beautiful than a father’s love. I love to watch my husband spend time with the kids as well, and my heart melts every time.

What a sweet post! I’m sure it means so much to Ben to read these wonderful things you’ve said about him. You’re so right– a father’s love is really special. When my dad passed away a few years ago, it was so tough, even as an adult. But I really treasure those memories I have from my childhood with him. They’re definitely some of my favorites. Your kiddos sound like they’re lucky to have two wonderful parents.
